This Holiday Season Give The Gift Of SPAM, yummmm!

Well, you don't have to... I didn't, but I might have if I were invited somewhere. You would not believe how many Spam gift sets I saw leading up to last weekend's festivities... wait, I'm getting ahead of myself. I'm talking about Chuseok (추석)! The most important Korean holiday of the year (next to Lunar New Year, of course), it's the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar. This year it happened to fall on October 3rd, meaning Friday, beign a very busy travel day, we had off! (Ha! See ya, kiddies!) A lot of foreign teachers had been invited to their co-teacher's houses for the holiday. I was not so lucky ('Chine, what are you doing for Chusoek?', 'Oh, I don't have plans...', 'Well, take a rest then. See you!')

The weekend was looking pretty grim (there are only so many Canada's Next Top Model episodes a person can take) when my friend Linda called me. She's in the EPIK program, so she knows quite a few people in Daejeon in the same program. Turned out, a few people were going to O-World (formerly known as Daejeon Zoo) that Friday. Chuseok day did not bring many differences. As it was Saturday, I went to my usual foreigner bar with the usual people. There was, however, one pleasant surprise. When I went to the bathroom that morning, the air was smoke free! I can only assume that the other tenants who smoke (i.e. all the tenants) went home to slowly kill their relatives bask in the holiday cheer!

The next Sunday was... omg, the best day I've had in Daejeon. I met up with Christy and Julie (the two ther people who went to O-World with me) and we went to Joongang. What's on Joongang? Underground shopping! Omg, it was magnificent. There was this long hall with shops for miles and many side hallways breaking off from it. We only made it through the first side hallway before we got tired! Needless to say, I now know my Korean clothes size. I spent... that's not important. I ended up with almost two full arms worth of shopping bags. After not shopping for 1.5 months, I think I needed that Sunday. So what do you do after a full day's worth of shopping in stores? Online shop rest... you rest... and stay away from the computer... yeah.

Music Monday: Epik Comback

Added bonus to album purchasers, that symbol on the bottom right is an ACTUAL guitar pick with 99 density. Genius, though I think I could only use it with my bass... which I never pick... it's still genius! Epik High's name has always been around, but I never listened to their songs. By the time I started listening to Korean music, they were already on an extended hiatus. Their latest album has proven that good things come to those who wait. It wins the award for album of the year in my opinion (BIG BANG's Alive and Still Alive were EPs and special editions respectively). I don't know if there was a blue moon when they were recording, because every song on the album is perfection. I love the way they rap over different genres. Sometimes alternative rock, sometimes electronic, sometimes pop, sometimes R&B, etc. It's a great combination and reintroduces the genre in a different way. Even if you're not into rap (or listening to a song you may not u...

Why I will never drive in Korea: Reason #32

I honestly don't know how this happened, but I'm really not that surprised. My theory is the first car was stopped, and the second car slowly continued to push forward? Look at that angle! I would not want to get out of that car. AWKWARD. More pics after the jump!
