Getting excited for Halloween. Especially after I stumbled upon this little gem from the past. Please tell me I'm not the only one who loved AJ.

A picture of the 5 year olds playing in the school yard. For a city that doesn't get much snow it's really coming down out there! Maybe it will be a white Christmas afterall. That or grey and dirty depending on how long the snow sticks around. [UPDATE] Not only did I take better pictures (available here ), but I actually joined in on the snow fight.  Thus I am appropriately renaming this post. In honor of Veterans Day (and as an added bonus, the G20 Summit), my class celebrated Pepero Day again. For those of you who don't know, Peperos are sticks made of crackers with chocolate in and sometimes wrapping around them. They're supposed to look like 11s, which is why they're given on Nov. 11th (no correlation with Veterans Day whatsoever). I was very confused last year, but (despite the fact that this is Valentine's day in it's most commercially tainted form-- thank you Lotte) this year I came prepared to give my kids the cavities they well deserved.  Happy Pepero Day!! - Posted using BlogPress via HEDWIG Location: My classroom... I went to see the ringing of the bell in City Hall for NYE. There were traditional performances, lights, and dangerous fireworks... what more could you need? Again, very old, but so what? Went down to Busan for Buddha's Birthday weekend (May 21-23).  There were lanterns all over the city (same as in Daejeon).  Here I'm at a Buddhist temple with a friend.  Full album to be posted on FB.  I'm just trying to get my computer situation figured out first!

Wondering how two inches of snow can completely devestate and entire city? Simply don't plow any roads or throw down and salt or dirt on the sidewalks.  Also (and here's the highlight) shovel snow INTO the streets so that more slush and grim can continue gridlock. I usually like snow, but this was just awful.  This snow has stayed around for a solid two weeks now!  The major roads are finally clear, but there is ice everywhere.  The playground next to my school is still completely covered in a snow.  None of that matches up to the frozen vomit that lines my road (I happen to live next to a lot of bars).  The snow just highlights it so well that it makes it easier for the birds to find and pick at.  Yum! Well, you don't have to... I didn't, but I might have if I were invited somewhere. You would not believe how many Spam gift sets I saw leading up to last weekend's festivities... wait, I'm getting ahead of myself. I'm talking about Chuseok (추석)! The most important Korean holiday of the year (next to Lunar New Year, of course), it's the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar. This year it happened to fall on October 3rd, meaning Friday, beign a very busy travel day, we had off! (Ha! See ya, kiddies!) A lot of foreign teachers had been invited to their co-teacher's houses for the holiday. I was not so lucky ('Chine, what are you doing for Chusoek?', 'Oh, I don't have plans...', 'Well, take a rest then. See you!') The weekend was looking pretty grim (there are only so many Canada's Next Top Model episodes a person can take) when my friend Linda called me. She's in the EPIK program, so she knows quite a few people...
