Vlog 11: 1st Daejeon Rock Festival

A couple months back Daejeon hosted its first ever rock festival (details here if you're really interested).  Though the concert itself was prematurely shut down by police due to various noise complaints (apparently we expats know how to throw down), I was able to get a few pics and video in before that. My pictures mostly capture the off-site activities happening close to Expo Park, but I managed to get video of some band being awesome. It's Party Time!

Well, they may not have won the World Cup, but South Korea's still going to party, dammit! And continue to make every English teacher here cringe in the process.  This is definitely not the worst I've seen though. I mean, at least it has a theme?? On a side note, has anyone else noticed that no one is playing soccer here anymore? Two weeks ago, I couldn't run outside for fear of seeing a flash of white/black graze my head. Now, crickets. I guess everyone's gone back to the ice rink...

Bon Bons has good art

I can't believe I was able to spot this as I was trying to finish a pizza alone and slipping in and out of consciousness , but here it is.  Like many of the pictures I post here, it speaks for itself.  I kind of want to steal it and put it on my horribly barren white walls.  I'm sick of looking at Rain's chiseled physic and feeling bad about myself.

The Shouting Reds!

So South Korea ripped Greece a new one last night. Frankly, Greece was embarassing to watch, but it definitely added to the already hyped up atmosphere in the area. These are pictures during the game and after in a westerner bar in Eunengdong (Old Downtown). The guy on the left was rooting for Greece.. whooomp!  Can you see the cluster of red in the back? Yeah, they clapped for everything!  It was kind of cute. I'm still supporting Nigeria. Though we didn't win against Argentina, at least there's a chance against Greece?

Don't quit your day job?

I'm obviously horrible at this blogging thing, but whatever. I was out at dinner with my friend Brianna and we saw the saddest fucking looking mascot ever!  Obviously promoting a restaurant or something, this thing looked like a dirty rag doll with droopy ears and an even droopier demeanor... Also, it was fucking cold outside, so he/she was probably miserable.  After it handed out all its balloons, it has to pass out fliers... like I told Brianna... it's a hard knock life.  Enjoy the pics (though they really don't do it justice... it was dirty as hell)

Luckily the Korean police didn't seem to have much else to do...

So I had a semi-eventful weekend this past Friday and Saturday. Well, maybe not Friday so much.. I went to this bar called Brickhouse. I'd been there before, but it had since been remodeled into what was supposed to be a quasi-dance club. Previously being the only Western sports bar in Daejeon, the bar now looks like a tiny little dive that could be a nice hangout if someone hadn't put in an absurdly out-of-place dance floor complete with a stripper's pole. Always one to keep it classy, the bar housed a number of smokers that made it difficult for me to stand being there for more than a few hours, so I left early. The next night, I went out with some KAIST students and a fellow teacher I met here in my first few weeks in Daejeon. We kind of spent the night bar hopping between my neighborhood which had one Western bar, Santa Clause, not too many people, and a pool table that I lost miserably at. I did, however, like how it was decorated in twinkle lights and wreaths. Any...

Vlog 3: This is why I love this bar!

Sponge Bar.  Located in New Downtown Daejeon.  The atmosphere is great, the people are nice and it caters to Westerners, so you can always meet someone new.  That's all nice and everything, but the real draw is the bartenders.  They make excellent cocktails and  go out of their way to do really kickass things.  Example: this freaking awesome video shot on my birthday (bonus points there). People, take note. This is how it's done . Korea Vlog 3: Sponge Bar from Chine Anikwe on Vimeo .
