So I had a semi-eventful weekend this past Friday and Saturday.
Well, maybe not Friday so much.. I went to this bar called Brickhouse. I'd been there before, but it had since been remodeled into what was supposed to be a quasi-dance club. Previously being the only Western sports bar in Daejeon, the bar now looks like a tiny little dive that could be a nice hangout if someone hadn't put in an absurdly out-of-place dance floor complete with a stripper's pole. Always one to keep it classy, the bar housed a number of smokers that made it difficult for me to stand being there for more than a few hours, so I left early.
The next night, I went out with some KAIST students and a fellow teacher I met here in my first few weeks in Daejeon. We kind of spent the night bar hopping between my neighborhood which had one Western bar, Santa Clause, not too many people, and a pool table that I lost miserably at. I did, however, like how it was decorated in twinkle lights and wreaths. Any extension of Christmas spirit is a-okay with me! We then went to a would-be dance club... I say would-be because it's really just another bar with a dance floor (sadly, no stripper's pole this time). The music also really sucked at this bar (J-Rock) so after getting beaten in a quick game of both flip-cup and foosball, we left for another club, Watermelon Sugar... we left a short while afterwards, however as the music was way too loud and it was way too crowded.
Leading the pack, I managed to get us to a kind of refuge house if you will... Garten Bier. Mmm, beer. It's damned near impossible to get decent beer on tap here, but at least I was able to drink a Stella from the bottle, yummmm. Anyway by the end of the night, we all tried to get Linda home. She's been here about as long as I have and has had trouble getting to her apartment even from a cab.
So we're walking and walking and finally after asking multiple people we get to a cab and ask the driver fro directions... he doesn't know how to get there either. Then a guy in a car not to far from the cab starts trying to help us. He couldn't figure out how to get there from his GPS either, so he calls the police to escort us to Linda's apartment. So that's pretty much how I ended my night: the four of us, squeezed in the back of a Korean cop car, being driven to my friend's apartment. At least we didn't have to pay cab fare!

No Cab Fare. Free Ride in a Police Vehicle that didn't follow an arrest. Win!
